Who can apply for the Digital Nomad Visa?

The visa is for non-EU citizens who work remotely for companies based outside Spain, or for freelancers whose clients are mostly outside Spain. EU, EEA and Swiss citizens do not need this visa and should follow the green NIE residency route instead.

How much do I need to earn?

The current threshold is 200% of the Spanish minimum wage, around €2,762 per month or €33,150 per year in 2026. A spouse or partner adds 75% on top, and each additional family member adds 25%. The exact figure is updated by the Spanish government each year and the module reflects the current value.

Can I apply from inside Spain as a tourist?

Yes. If you are in Spain on a tourist stay you can apply directly to the UGE-CE in Madrid. This is the route most applicants choose, and the one our module is built around. You receive a 3-year residence permit straight away instead of a 1-year visa.

How long does the application take?

The UGE-CE has a legal deadline of 20 working days to decide. In practice most files are approved within 20 to 40 calendar days. If they do not respond within the legal window the application is deemed approved through positive administrative silence.

Can my partner and children join me?

Yes. Family members can be included on the same file or added later through reagrupación. Your spouse, registered partner, dependent children and dependent parents all qualify and receive the same 3-year permit linked to yours.

Do I get the Beckham Law tax regime automatically?

No, you have to opt in by submitting Modelo 149 within six months of starting work in Spain. The module covers this election step by step. Once accepted you pay a flat 24% on Spanish-source income up to €600,000 for up to six years.

What happens after the first three years?

Before your permit expires you renew it for an additional two years. After five years of continuous legal residence in Spain you become eligible for long-term residence, and after ten you can apply for Spanish nationality (or two years if you hold a passport from a Hispanic country).

Can I also work for a Spanish client or employer?

You may earn up to 20% of your total income from Spanish clients or employers. If more than 20% of your income comes from Spain you no longer qualify as a teletrabajador internacional and would need a different residence permit.

What if I do not have a digital certificate yet?

You can still pay the TASA 790-038 in person at a Spanish bank and submit a stamped receipt. For the MI-T form itself you do need a Certificado Digital and Autofirma to sign before uploading. The Certificado Digital module on Easy to Spain walks you through getting one in a single morning.
